D_Grabber  -  Frequently Asked Questions

1) “Where do I get the most up to date FAQ information?”
- Right here!

2) “My camera is functional but I cannot see it in the web viewer using D_Grabber.”
- Flash player allows for video feeds from different internal sources. Context-Click get to the Flash Player setup controls (Control-Click on a Mac, Right-Click on a PC). From the popup menu choose the “Settings” menu option then choose the camera icon. You should then be able to choose the appropriate source type (USB, Firewire or DV) for your camera.  Note: the web viewer sometimes must be enlarged in order for the Flash Player settings manager pop up to be fully visible.

3) “The Flash Player settings will not display when I Context-Click on the viewer.”
- The Flash player needs the viewer to be larger than a certain size in order to display the settings window.  Try enlarging the web viewer object.

4) “I was getting a good video feed but it stopped, what happened?”
- Besides checking that the camera is still operating (of course), check to see that the D_Grabber.html file is being used only once by your computer. It can only supply a video image to a single application so check for multiple instances of your FileMaker file or direct access to the D_Grabber.html file via a browser.

5) "What about time code, can that be displayed?"
- It doesn't seem that time code is supported by Adobe yet.  We'll watch for this feature in upcoming versions.

6) "If I enlarge the web viewer the image doesn't enlarge."
- This is normal behavior for the web viewer, it assumes you want to see the web page without stretching or compressing.

7) "I've installed the files on my web server but all I get is a black screen in my small size web viewer."
- The first thing that Flash Player wants to do is verify that you're OK with it taking a feed off your camera.  So it brings up the settings manager but you can't see it on the small sized web viewer.  Switch to a larger size web viewer to allow permission.  Then make sure you go back to the settings manager (context-click on the web viewer) to choose "remember this" so you won't have to go through this every time your computer accesses your web file.

8) "My MacBook Pro's built-in camera does not work."
- This camera is considered a USB source.  Context-click on the web viewer image to bring up the Flash Settings Manager - going to a larger web viewer if necessary.  Choose the web cam icon then switch to a USB source.

9) "What's the D_Grabber release history?"
- 7/9/2008    D_Grabber_2_9_080709, name change only when coming out of public beta testing.
- 6/18/2008    D_Grabber_2_8_080618_Public_Beta, fixed html file to fix problem that caused files not to work with some Windows machines.
- 5/12/2008    D_Grabber_2_7_080512_Public_Beta, first release.

10) "My Vista machine gives me a dark blue screen and/or wants to repeatedly install Flash Player."
- This can happen when IE is not properly recognizing Flash Player.  Close your FileMaker file then open IE and use it to open the D_Grabber.html file.  Let it load Flash Player if it wants to.  Close the IE window and repeat to make sure the file will open without IE complaining about active content.  Adjust IE if necessary.  Once the D_Grabber.html file can be opened correctly in IE, quit IE and attempt to access the D_Grabber file through FileMaker.
