D_Grabber - Design Concepts
The idea behind D_Grabber is very simple: It provides a live feed from your video source to your
FileMaker database application’s web viewer. Within FileMaker you’ll see what your camera is seeing.
To display an image...
- include a web viewer object on your layout,
- point the web viewer to the D_Grabber.html file,
- attach a camera to the computer,
- enter browse mode.
- if necessary adjust the flash player’s settings for your video source (FireWire, USB or DV).
To grab an image...
- design the layout so the web viewer is positioned in the upper left corner of the layout,
- adjust the sliding/printing settings so that the web viewer is the only object that will print,
- adjust the page (or print) setup to exactly match the size of the web viewer
- enter preview mode,
- copy the preview,
- enter browse mode,
- paste the copy into a container field.
Of course the last few steps are probably best accomplished by using a script. Please see the sample layouts and scripts that are part of the D_Grabber_info.fp7 file to get an idea of how this can work.
Due to FileMaker limitations, the web viewer has to be placed in the upper left corner of the layout. Unfortunately the sliding controls do not seem to effect the image presented by the web viewer.
Note: the web viewer sometimes must be enlarged in order for the Flash Player settings manager to be visible. The settings manager is accessible by context-clicking onto the video feed shown by your web viewer object.
