Consulting Services
We offer two types of services...
Hourly Maintenance Services
Useful when upgrade work is needed on an existing database application. Prepaid plans are available for long-term support.
Development Services For new projects we've found it to be most effective to proceed in two phases...
- Discovery Phase
Also known as a specification or foundation phase, this is when we work with your company to develop written documents that describe the concrete details of your new application - what data needs to be tracked, how is it entered/gathered/imported, what screens/reports are needed, how will users navigate between them, what security access levels should be allowed. We meet with your company representatives, evaluate your existing systems and suggest new designs. This phase is billed on an hourly basis with the end result being a comprehensive description of your plans and an estimate of the development hours needed to develop them. Of course we hope that you'll continue into the next phase with us.
- Development Phase
Here the actual construction occurs. As per the discovery phase plans you'll be able to follow the construction process at specific evaluation points (meetings and/or hands on testing) and through detailed invoices. If potential design changes come up you'll be given a written estimate for each. This way you'll be able to prioritize them with the other design details. Development phase work is also done on an hourly basis but the discovery phase estimates will allow you to predict and manage total project costs.
Note for Conversion Projects
Converting an existing FileMaker solution from an earlier (pre-7) version is normally undertaken as a new project. Depending upon how the database application was originally built and what new features are needed, the Discovery Phase will help you decide whether to convert the existing files or use them as a design guide for new projects. Sometimes it's best to start from scratch.
